Unauthorized Use of ArchiCAD: Kiev Construction Company Under Investigation

A Kyiv-based construction company involved in the design of a cottage complex has been found to be using an unauthorized version of the ArchiCAD software developed by Graphisoft.

Despite receiving warnings from Vindex Law Firm regarding the unlawful use of the program, the architects associated with the company failed to respond and continued their illicit activities. As a result, Vindex Law Firm escalated the matter to the law enforcement authorities.

The Cyber Police Department initiated a pretrial investigation into the violation of copyright laws surrounding the case.

In a recent operation, the Cyber Police conducted a search at the premises of the construction company, resulting in the seizure of computer equipment containing unauthorized copies of the software.

The investigation revealed that the construction company had initially acquired a trial version of ArchiCAD in 2018. However, upon the expiration of the trial period, they proceeded to configure an unlicensed copy for further usage.

A criminal investigation has been launched under Part 3 of Article 176 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine in relation to this incident. The maximum penalty for such offenses is up to six years of imprisonment.

The authorities will continue to gather evidence and identify all individuals involved in the unauthorized use of the software.

We will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
